The main feature of the semi-underground system, which is patented accordingly, is the internal removable container.
It is manufactured from high-density polyester in line with the requirements of the EN 13071 series of standards, within which citizens dispose of waste or recyclable materials, depending on its use.

The upper part of the 3mm-thick container is fitted with three metal hooks arranged in triangular formation, enhanced at their base with a metal rim, for lifting and transferring the container to the collection vehicle.
The bottom of the container has also been certified by official testing, for being exceptionally resistant to heavy waste loads.

The main advantages which help differentiate this particular internal container from other similar systems are the following:
1) It is resistant to tearing due to heavy waste loads.
2) It is resistant to corrosion from the acidity of waste liquids.
3) The careful design of the container bottom allows it to retain liquids, without them coming into contact with the external bin.

The operation of the specific internal container is based on the natural release of waste due to gravity, by safe opening of the bottom through activation of a suitable mechanism.
The entire mechanism comprises of the following components:
1) An exceptionally heavy duty metal hook.
2) A metal component that keeps the hook in horizontal position and is responsible for releasing the hook.
3) A wire safety latch that prevents involuntary activation of the mechanism.
4) A rope connected to the unlocking mechanism which releases the bottom when pulled.

After the internal container has been lifted by the vehicle-mounted crane mechanism and the bottom has been placed on the base of the waste collection vehicle's funnel, the operator releases the hook by pulling the wire safety latch.
Then, the rope is pulled and the container is lifted by the crane allowing the bottom to be opened into the compactor funnel, emptying the waste inside.

When the container is completely empty the operator transfers it and places it initially on the overground part of the external bin. After ensuring that the bottom is properly shut and securing the locking mechanism, the internal container is placed inside the external bin.
